Subsea Protection Systems: Weatherproof Precast Concrete Curing and Equipment Storage with Zappshelter

The Company:

Subsea Protection Systems is a leading supplier of concrete mattresses and stabilisation products to the subsea industry. Supplying major subsea construction firms across the oil and gas, offshore renewable and marine civil engineering sectors, they design and manufacture a wide range of solutions for the protection of pipelines, cables and other vital subsea assets.

For the development of their new facility on Stannergate Road in Dundee, Subsea Protection Systems needed a reliable and durable solution to cure precast concrete products and securely house essential machinery and equipment. Zappshelter was chosen to deliver a custom setup to meet this requirement.

The Challenge:

Anyone in the precast concrete industry knows that a controlled environment is vital to the quality and structural integrity of the final product. When curing concrete is exposed to unpredictable weather, it can severely compromise the strength and durability of the finished asset.

Furthermore, as Subsea Protection Systems were opening a brand-new facility, they urgently needed safe, secure and weatherproof storage to protect valuable machinery and other equipment from the harsh Scottish coastal elements. They needed a robust solution from day one to ensure operations would run smoothly and efficiently without weather-related delays.

The Solution:

The solution was a bespoke Zappshelter, customised to the site’s specific layout and requirements. The structure was mounted onto a 3.2m high precast concrete lego block bay, creating an ideal, elevated storage and curing area.

The installation included:

  • One 10m wide x 12.2m long Zappshelter
  • Enclosed with one partial end wall

To handle the notoriously challenging coastal Scottish weather, the partial end wall was included to provide additional shielding against wind and driving rain, offering an ideal solution for environmental management.

The Result:

The results speak for themselves. With a dedicated, weatherproof curing bay in place, Subsea Protection Systems can consistently maintain the high quality of their precast concrete products, regardless of the weather outside.

A successful project is about more than just the structure; it’s about enabling operational excellence. The new Zappshelter also provides a secure, dry storage area for their machinery, reducing maintenance issues and extending the lifespan of their equipment. By keeping their assets and materials protected at their new Dundee base, Subsea Protection Systems has ensured their facility is consistently ready to serve the subsea industry at the highest standard.
