Cumbria Waste Group: Fast, Durable Cover for Food Waste Operations with Zappshelter

The Company:

Cumbria Waste Group (CWG) is the largest provider of bespoke waste collection, waste disposal and recycling services in Cumbria. Serving over 4,000 clients across the North of England and Southern Scotland, CWG offers comprehensive commercial waste management solutions for businesses across Cumbria, Lancashire and the North East. They offer an extensive range of waste management solutions including wheelie bins, skips, curtain sider collections, and hazardous waste treatment and disposal.

The Challenge:

At their site on Shap Road in Kendal, CWG was looking to develop a new undercover shelter specifically for food waste collection. To maintain their high standards of service and operational efficiency, they needed a structure that offered the durability of a traditional steel building but could be deployed rapidly.

The design specifications were strict: the structure needed to maximise internal width to accommodate large refuse vehicles – requiring up to 3.5m of clear width and 6m in height for ease of access – while integrating securely with their existing site infrastructure.

The Solution:

To meet these specifications, our solution was to install a 6m wide x 9m long Zappshelter, mounted directly onto their existing block bay. To effectively manage rainwater and ensure proper site drainage, the setup was fitted with a galvanised valley gutter and outlet.

Understanding the need for easy access, the Zappshelter was tailored with two partial end walls and engineered to maximise width for vehicle entry. The installation also included necessary structural supports and a robust roller shutter door, providing both security and ease of access for their collection fleet.

The Result:

The installation of this custom Zappshelter at the Kendal site has provided CWG with a resilient, functional, covered space. By implementing this solution, the group is benefiting from:
