Dan Walters Motor Mechanics Overcomes Major Business Interruption with a Rapid-Install Zappshelter Workshop

The Company:

Dan Walters Motor Mechanics is a highly respected, independent garage based in Fordingbridge, Hampshire, nestled on the edge of the New Forest. Providing essential automotive services to the local community, their experienced team handles everything from routine MOTs and servicing to complex diagnostics and heavy engine repairs across all vehicle makes and models.

As is the case with any busy local mechanic, the business relies on having a well-equipped, secure, and weather-protected premises to turn around customer vehicles quickly and maintain their strong reputation for reliability and quality service.

The Challenge:

When a fire originating in a neighbouring unit spread to their garage and subsequently destroyed their workspace, this forced an immediate relocation. For a motor mechanics business, losing a physical premises doesn’t just mean a temporary pause – it causes substantial business interruption.

Unable to take in vehicles or access specialised equipment, the knock-on consequences for their revenue and their customers were severe. Dan Walters Motor Mechanics urgently needed a reliable, robust workshop solution to get their operations back up and running as quickly as possible.

The Solution:

In response to this operational emergency, a bespoke Zappshelter, named ‘Jobeth’, was chosen as a rapid-deployment workshop. We supplied and installed a 17m wide x 14.64m long Zappshelter, customised to meet the specific demands of a busy mechanics garage:

  • High Cube Container Mounting: The shelter was mounted to High Cube ISO shipping containers. This provided considerable height clearance for commercial vehicles and car lifts, while the containers themselves act as secure, lockable storage for valuable tools and diagnostic equipment.
  • Fully Enclosed Elevations: To protect mechanics, vehicles and exposed part/equipment from the elements, the shelter was enclosed at both the front and rear. The rear elevation was fitted with a partial end wall to seal the structure tightly against the containers.
  • Easy Access: The front elevation featured a full end wall equipped with a heavy-duty 5m wide x 5m high roller door on a steel frame, allowing effortless drive-in access for vehicles of all sizes. Furthermore, a wicket door was built directly into the roller door, providing quick and safe pedestrian access for staff without needing to open the large main shutter – crucial for retaining heat during the winter months.

The Result:

The impact of this rapid installation was immediate and transformative. This custom Zappshelter configuration provided Dan Walters Motor Mechanics with a durable, instantly deployable workshop that enabled them to recover swiftly from a devastating setback.

By combining the secure foundation of High Cube shipping containers with a fully enclosed, weatherproof canopy, they successfully mitigated the business interruption they faced. The mechanics are back under cover, operations have fully resumed and their customers are being served once again in a professional, dry and spacious garage environment.
