Evergreen Garden Care Boosts Efficiency & Protects Materials

The Company:

Evergreen Garden Care Ltd, is a garden care company operating in Europe and Australasia, supplying a range of products for lawn, plant, and garden maintenance. Formed in 2017 after acquiring the international business of Scott’s Miracle-Gro, the company has a team of 950 employees. Evergreen operates in the UK, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, Austria, Poland, the Nordics, Australia and New Zealand. It owns market-leading brands such as Miracle-Gro, Roundup, Substral and Pokon, offering a full range of garden care solutions.

The Challenge:

Evergreen operates two factories producing growing media compost for the UK market. Keeping materials protected from the elements is crucial – without proper cover, they can degrade and fall below quality standards. Additionally, with materials piled up in different areas, organisation was a challenge, making navigation difficult and creating potential safety hazards. Evergreen needed a solution that would not only protect their materials but also bring structure, efficiency and a safer working environment to their operation.

The Zappshelter Solution:

Zappshelter partnered with Evergreen to create a bespoke shelter solution that included two types of shelter systems, comprising of 9 bays at their Hatfield site and 4 at their Kirkby location. The shelters ranged in sizes from 12m x 14m up to 16m x 36m:

Enclosed Shelters: Designed for long-term storage of materials, keeping them protected and maintaining their quality.

36-Metre Open Ended Shelter: Ideal for product rotation, allowing materials to move seamlessly from one end to the other. Also allows for increased air flow.

Zappshelter worked closely with Evergreen to optimise the layout of their site. Dene Newell – Head of Operations at Evergreen Garden Care, explained, “Working with Zapshelter to utilise the site space was key.” Some shelters were designed with stepped heights, “to accommodate what’s behind and what’s inside of them”.

Remarking on the order and installation process, Dene added, “The whole end-to-end process with the shelters has been flawless, from the guys coming out measuring up, corresponding via emails, phone calls, text messages keeping on the end of the phone any time throughout that process. Even down to tweaking last minute before installation.”

The Result:

“The change has been big for the site,” Dene reflects. “It’s more organised now. Each bay has its own ingredient, making it easier to navigate the site. It’s also a lot safer and it just looks better on the eye.”

By protecting their materials from the elements, Evergreen has been able to maintain the quality of their growing media compost. The new layout has created a safer and more efficient working environment, while the professional appearance of the shelters enhances the overall site.

Dene’s final thoughts:

“I think what sets Zappshelter apart from their competitors, it’s that the customer service was second to none. Not only that, but when you look at them compared to what’s out there in the market, it’s just a better quality product. So, if any other companies were looking into investing to protect their materials, I would certainly recommend Zappshelter. As we said from end to end, the process has been perfect, so much so we’re looking at investing further into the site and installing more in the coming years.”
