Zappshelter’s Rapid On-Site Equipment Storage Keeps Murphy Group on Schedule. 

The Company:

Murphy Group is a leading specialist engineering and construction company with a rich heritage in delivering world-class infrastructure. For this project in North Yorkshire, they were operating on behalf of National Grid to deliver the Yorkshire Green project – a major initiative designed to upgrade and reinforce the high-voltage power network and help reduce the national reliance on fossil fuels.

The Challenge:

When dealing with national infrastructure, project timelines are non-negotiable. For the Yorkshire Green substation works, Murphy faced an urgent logistical challenge: high-value electrical equipment deliveries were ready to ship, but there was nowhere suitable on-site to safely store them.

They urgently needed a covered, fully enclosed storage solution that could go up quickly before the equipment arrived. The structure also needed to provide clearance for material handling equipment and had to be suitable for construction directly onto their existing stone and hardcore compound.

The Solution:

To keep the project moving without delay, Murphy chose a rapid, heavy-duty Zappshelter, named “Marie”. The Zappshelter was securely mounted onto shipping containers, which provided the ideal foundation on the hardcore compound while instantly giving the team the necessary clearance for their handling equipment.

The installation included:

• One 10m wide x 12.2m long Zappshelter
• A fully enclosed system featuring two full end walls
• One 4m x 4m electric steel roller door for secure, easy access
• Internal PVC rainwater guttering for effective site water management

The Result:

The fast turnaround and installation of the Zappshelter meant that Murphy could receive their vital electrical equipment exactly on schedule, preventing costly supply chain delays. By creating an instant, secure and weatherproof environment, they ensured that sensitive components were fully protected from the elements until they were ready for installation.

Ultimately, this smart storage solution allowed Murphy to stay on schedule on the Yorkshire Green project, that is essential to the future of the UK’s green energy network.
