My First Month at Zappshelter

Kelly McCollum, Marketing and Communications Manager at Zappshelter, shares highlights from her first month in the role. 

From day one, I’ve felt truly blessed to be part of Zappshelter! Right from my first interview with Craig Michel (Managing Director), it was clear that this company embodies its values. They don’t just talk about excellence—they live it. For a recovering perfectionist like me, that commitment to quality is inspiring!

My onboarding experience was seamless. My manager, Calvin Michel, Head of Creative, had everything prepared down to the smallest detail, making the process thorough but never overwhelming. The entire team welcomed me warmly, each person contributing to my learning with their area of expertise. It’s still early days, and while there’s a lot to take in, I always feel supported by Calvin and the wider team whenever I need a helping hand.

Working remotely can sometimes feel isolating, but Zappshelter goes above and beyond to keep the team connected. Weekly meetings, monthly team days (complete with Lisa Slack’s seriously tricky Dingbats quizzes!), and a team WhatsApp group celebrating successes all make me feel part of something bigger, no matter where I am.

The role itself is everything I hoped for—varied, creative, and challenging in the best way. I’m encouraged to try new ideas and am truly heard by my manager, which makes me feel both empowered and valued. I get to work with the very best equipment and latest marketing automation software, it’s a marketers dream! Zappshelter truly believes in having the best tools for the job – they don’t cut corners. On top of that, collaborating with skilled external agencies adds depth and expertise to our work.

Zappshelter is growing fast, which is no surprise, and I’m excited to be onboard for the journey. I feel inspired about what lies ahead and look forward to growing, developing, and building my career with this remarkable team.
