Red Knight 6: Protecting Personnel and Parts with Versatile Workshop Solution

The Company:

Established in 1966, Surrey-based Red Knight 6, is a leading distributor for a number of international manufacturers in the crushing, screening, and recycling industry. Their extensive range includes, Rubble Master, Komplet, EDGE Innovate, MDS, IMS, TrommALL, Nordmann and Simem. Their customer base ranges from privately owned demolition and quarrying companies to national firms, such as Tarmac and Breedon.

The Challenge:

During wetter months, Red Knight 6 faced challenges when repairing and overhauling machinery, as their team was often working outdoors in the elements. Existing buildings were insufficient for the size of the machines they were handling, creating a need for more covered workspace to improve efficiency and protect their team. They also required a solution to store spare parts close to the work area, reducing the need to move items across the site.

The Zappshelter Solution:

Red Knight 6 chose Zappshelter to create a more efficient and weather-protected workspace. They recognised the versatility of Zappshelter and how they could be adapted to their specific needs. Zappshelter provided a solution that allowed Red Knight 6 to create a self-contained work area, bringing their operations under cover and improving workflow.

Zappshelter manufactured, supplied and installed a custom 14m wide x 12.2m long, container-mounted shelter solution, complete with a full end wall. Despite Red Knight 6’s ground surface not being concrete, Zappshelter overcame this by improvising with their existing hardcore base and using ballast blocks at the rear to pin down the end wall for extra stability. 

Each Zappshelter is proudly made in Britain and structurally engineered to withstand 1-in-10-year wind events. With nearly 1000 structures scattered across the UK, from the Isle of Wright to Stornoway, Zappshelter has never had a structural failure. Zappshelter’s unique ‘Taurinox™’ fabric cover is UV stable, allows for 70% light transmission and offers high tensile strength. Each Zappshelter is manufactured with British box-section steel, which offers 50% more strength than its competitors.

By providing covered workspace and on-site parts storage, Zappshelter has helped Red Knight 6 streamline their repair and overhaul processes.
