Tarmac is one of the UK’s leading sustainable building materials and construction solutions businesses. As a loyal and existing client of Zappshelter, they already understand the value of robust, high-quality site infrastructure to support their operations. For their asphalt plant located in Clitheroe, England, Tarmac required a dependable industrial shelter solution to protect vital materials from the unpredictable British weather.
In asphalt production, managing moisture levels in raw materials is absolutely key. When RAP (Reclaimed Asphalt Pavement), aggregates and dust are exposed to the elements and get wet, the plant requires significantly more energy to dry them out before processing. This not only increases fuel consumption and carbon output but also slows down production efficiency and drives up operational costs. Tarmac needed a fast, reliable storage solution at their Clitheroe site to keep their materials dry and ensure their production remained as efficient and cost-effective as possible.
To solve this, Tarmac turned once again to Zappshelter. The customised solution involved a combination of new and repurposed structures, demonstrating the flexibility and sustainability of the Zappshelter system. Mounted on sturdy steel support beams, the installation included:
This setup, completed in April 2026, created a unified, expansive and effective covered storage area for their raw materials.
With their RAP, aggregates and dust now consistently protected from the weather, Tarmac has successfully safeguarded their Clitheroe plant against weather-related production delays and soaring material drying costs. The ability to seamlessly relocate a Zappshelter from another site proved highly cost-effective and aligns with sustainable, circular-economy practices. Tarmac continues to rely on Zappshelter for fast, durable and flexible industrial shelter solutions that deliver genuine operational benefits.
